Facebook gets green light to build its second campus at California headquarters

Seems as if building new, fancy properties is quickly becoming the norm within the tech sector. Following in both Apple and Google's spacious footsteps, Facebook too will be looking to amplify its California-based headquarters -- and now it's received the OK from Menlo Park authorities to commence turning Frank Gehry's design vision into a reality. The second campus itself is set to boast nearly 434,000 square feet in total and be built across 22 acres, which will be plenty of space to house anything from a rooftop park to an underground tunnel which leads to Facebook's existent abode. As for city council members, they seem to be rather pleased by Zuck's proposed construction, with one Kirsten Keith expressing how she "feels very lucky that we'll have a Frank Gehry building here." Well then, cheers all around.

Jessops is Re-Opening Under Peter Jones, Shit-Eating Grin Not Included

Jessops was probably the most annoying High Street shut-down to happenearlier this year, and certainly one of the most tragic. However, you can wipe away those tears (with an appropriately soft micro-fibre cloth, of course), because Jessops is back TODAY, complete with photos of Peter Jones looking awkward in a cheapo-polyester fleece.

The Dragon finally put some of those vast piles of 50-pound notes to work, buying up Jessops in January after it’d gone into administration. Not all of the stores are going to reopen; rather, five revamped stores (London Oxford Street, Birmingham, Manchester, Aberdeen, St Albans and High Wycombe) will get defibrillated today, and then one store per day will reopen throughout April.

In order to avoid another awkward failure six months down the line, the focus of the stores is being rejigged, with the emphasis apparently more on customer service and less on shoving extras down peoples’ necks. There’ll be tables to actually play with cameras (oh the novelty!), photo workshops, and express image printing services. It all sounds pretty snazzy, and definitely a step in the right direction; whether it’s enough to ward off the Amazon tsunami, however, remains to be seen.

Has Chris Brown broken up with Rihanna?

Chris Brown has caused shockwaves in world of celebrity this morning after a video of him, being interviewed on radio, appeared to show him saying he was no longer dating, Rihanna.

However, we don’t think we can ring the freedom bell on her behalf yet, as it seems that this now may not be the case.

What’s happening?

The 23-year-old was asked by the station whether he was still dating the star, to which he replied no.

SHOCK HORROR.

The station then tweeted this, "Are you still w/ @Rihanna?" @ChrisBrown: "Uh,no-that's the short answer" just now to @BigBoy POWER 106 LA @TuneIn, shortly after – sparking rumours that the pair had parted ways.

The POWER 106 went on to say that they would not have tweeted this if it were not true, however it’s now being claimed that this was never said.

The full transcript of the show has yet to be released. When it is, we’ll be sure to run through it very thoroughly.

Chris went on to speak affectionately about the Diamond’s star, speaking about how they recently had been spending a lot of time working together in the studio and explained that he would feature on some of her new tracks.

He even went on to address the supposed row he had with Frank Ocean and attempts to clear the air.

North Korea Is Putting Its Rockets on Standby for Fire After the US Made a Show of Force with Stealth Bombers

According to Reuters, North Korea has readied its rockets to attack US military bases in South Korea and the Pacific Ocean after the US made a show of force by flying stealth bombers over South Korea. Kim Jong Un had apparently signed off an order for North Korea’s rockets to be “on standby for fire”.

The official KCNA news agency said:

“He finally signed the plan on technical preparations of strategic rockets of the KPA (Korean People’s Army), ordering them to be on standby for fire so that they may strike any time the U.S. mainland, its military bases in the operational theaters in the Pacific, including Hawaii and Guam, and those in South Korea.”

Of course this being North Korea, you never know what’s what. Though North Korea does have missiles that could hit South Korea, their longer range missiles remain untested. As for the US and flying bombers to Korea, it was a pretty rare move by their military. The B-2 bombers flew over 6,500 miles from Missouri to South Korea to drop inert bombs. The Pentagon said it was the first time the B-2 bombers made the round trip.

Facebook Is Going to Have a New Home on Android

Facebook just invited the press to an event at Facebook HQ that’ll show off Facebook’s “new home on Android”. Is this the much talked about (and denied) Facebook phone? Will Facebook be using the Android OS to build a layer of Facebook on top of? HMM. Or is this just some new version of the Android Facebook app? We’ll find out on April 4th.

TechCrunch is reporting that this press event will indeed bring a Facebook phone of sorts. Their sources say that the event will center around an HTC phone that’ll run a modified version of Android “with deep native Facebook functionality”. TechCrunch’s sources also say that it won’t be a completely new version of Android but rather a modification of Android that’ll be deeply integrated with Facebook. Think things like messaging with Facebook Messenger and sharing to the ‘book from anywhere in the phone.

If it looks like a Facebook phone and works like a Facebook phone…

Flipboard: Make your own magazine with major app revamp!

News app Flipboard has today been updated to version 2.0 for iOS, and with that nice round number comes a whole host of extra features that make the killer news reader app even better: you can even create your own magazines for others to read.

The spotlight feature of the new update is the ability to curate as many Flipbook magazines as you want all from a single button. Hitting the ’+’ on any article in-app sends that right to your own mag, which you can either make public and share with friends – or you can keep it private for yourself.

Get ready to Draw Something again with Zynga’s sequel

The ’+’ button doesn’t just stop in the app: you can also make use of it right inside your desktop browser by adding a bookmarklet from which you can send almost anything right to your own magazine, and then share those with friends through your usual social networks. You’ll also get Flipboard notifications when people like, comment or subscribe to your magazines making the news reader a social network of its own, Twitter style.

The main design of Flipboard still retains the same flipping interface that we’ve all grown used to, but slightly refined with a few tweaks here and there such as search, which has been moved right to the front and improved on. The app will also give you some recommended picks if you’re ever stuck for something to read. For the Etsy-obsessed, there’s even an option for you to buy items inside the app plus a “My Etsy Wish List’, so you can keep your online shopping habits up to date.

These all look like strong additions to the Flipboard experience, but unfortunately for now, the update is just limited to iOS with the Android version slated for next month. You can grab it from the App Store here.

My ordeal in kidnappers’ camp, by NTA reporter

AKURE - The nursing mother and reporter with Nigerian Television Authority, NTA, Akure, Ondo State, Mrs Olubunmi Oke, released by his abductors, Saturday, has narrated her three-day ordeal in the camp of the kidnappers.

According to her, "I noticed a car following me at high speed, so I had to increase the speed with which I was driving and I rolled up my glass.

"Very close to Jojein Hotel, Oba-Ile, the road was very bad. So I had to slow down to carefully maneuvre through the potholes. It was at that point that they levelled up with me and I was double-crossed.

"I asked them what my offence was. I even offered them my car keys but three of them, armed with guns, dragged me into their car. One of them got into my car and drove behind us.

"They drove through Owode to FUTA and to Ondo. They told me they were taking me to DeltaState but when we got to Ore, they blindfolded me.

They blindfolded me from Thursday night till Saturday night when I was released. So it was impossible for me to know where I was.

"My housemaid and six-month-old baby were in the car with me. They dropped them on the road before driving my car away. They later got home in a public transport. I learnt they later dropped my car at Igbara-Oke.

"At present, the car is with the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS. When I was released on Saturday, they gave me my car keys. I hope to get the car during the week.

Nobody sent them against me

"Nobody sent them to me. It was a case of random kidnapping. I just walked into their hands. I do not want to believe anyone sent them to me because when they got me, they were asking me series of questions, 'Where do you work?' 'Who are you?'

"I think that showed clearly that they did not know anything about me. I think the car I was driving coupled with the way I was dressed (I read news that evening; so I still had my clothes and jewelry on) made them think I was a good catch.

No ransom was paid

"The men of the SSS took charge of the situation; the SARS and God's intervention were also there. So, we did not pay.

" Also, the fact that they got to know that I was a journalist and that the news was everywhere hastened my release.

"My experience in their hands was not palatable. For days, I could only drink water. I just believe now that I am back home, God is my security."

Ojukwu family withdraws suits over property dispute

Three of the suits arising from family tussle over the properties left behind by the late Ikemba Nnewi, Chief Chukwuemeka Odumegwu-Ojukwu, might have been resolved out of court.

The Lagos High Court sitting in Igbosere struck out the suits following the notice of discontinuance. One of the suits was initially instituted against the former warlord's wife, Bianca.

The other suit was instituted against "unknown persons".

The trial judge, Justice Adedayo Oyebanji, struck out the two other separate suits with numbers LD/1682/12 and LD/1681/12, filed against unknown persons occupying two separate properties of the firm.

Some members of the family had instituted the suits through one the deceased's company, Ojukwu Transport Limited.

The claimant was seeking to be paid a total of N280m as compensation and accruable rents on two of the deceased's houses located at 29 Oyinkan Abayomi Drive (formerly Queens Drive), Ikoyi, and at 13, Ojora Road (Hawksworth Road), Ikoyi.

The company had sought the court to take over the properties, and demanded a payment of N80m being expected rent of the two houses from September 27, 2012, until the defendants give up possession.

It also prayed the court to order 21 per cent interest on the accrued sums until judgment is given and five per cent interest until the entire sum is fully paid.

In addition, it sought N100m damages on the suits instituted against the unknown persons.

"The claimant, through its counsel, Ikechukwu Ubahakwe, on Monday informed Justice Adedayo Oyebanji, of its pending notice of discontinuance of the action, dated February 5, 2013. The suit was numbered LD/1680/12.

Bianca's counsel, Nick Omeha, who did not object to the application which was seeking the withdrawal of the suit, had sought for N100,000 cost against the claimants. 

Martins may have played his last game for Eagles, says official

Super Eagles' 'weapon of mass destruction,' Obafemi Martins, may not get the chance to play for the national team again following what an official of the team described as 'signs of the inevitable decline' in his game.

Martins played for 60 minutes in the Brazil 2014 World Cup qualifier against Kenya at the U.J Esuene Satdium, Calabar, and according to the official, who pleaded anonymity, the Inter Milan former star did not justify his continued presence in the team.

"We brought in Martins in the absence of Emmanuel Emenike because we needed somebody with a forceful presence in the Kenyan penalty box, but all the time he spent in the game he did not muster any shot on target.

"People have tried to defend him by saying he did not get much service from the midfielders, but apart from his endless runs, his positioning and general game was not what we expected from a top star like him.

"We need strikers who can fashion out openings and create things even in tight situations and Martins failed in that aspect against Kenya.

"We will look at the performance of all the players when we review the game, but I doubt if he would get another chance in this team."

He said the coaches would continue to give every Nigerian the chance to stake a claim for inclusion in the team, adding, however, that there may not be any second chance for some stars.

Meanwhile, the team's stand-in-Captain, Vincent Enyeama, believes the Super Eagles will beat Kenya in Nairobi in the reverse leg of the fixture in June.

Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart appear to have put any relationship troubles behind them, as they're already planning a holiday across Europe this summer.

The Sun reports that the pair are preparing to hire a camper van and tour Italy, France and Germany, meeting mutual friends of theirs – including Katy Perry – along the way. 

Rob and Kristen have been spotted on numerous dates since Rob returned from filming The Rover in Australia earlier this month. Reports say they were even holding hands on a romantic evening stroll through Loz Feliz LA last Friday. OOH.

Reality star Kim Kardashian has declared the father of her soon-to-be-born child, Kanye West, is in no way responsible for her sometimes questionable wardrobe choices.

In a candid episode of Kourtney & Kim Take Miami , Kim Kardashian cleared boyfriend Kanye West's name for her personal crimes against fashion.

Virgin Trains Wins Two-Year West Coast Main Line Extension

The government’s finally ready to start the UK’s rail franchise system up again after making an almighty mess of the process last year, with the first decision being to grant Virgin Trains an extension on its West Coast main line route that’ll see it continue to run the line until 2017.

The decision from Transport Secretary Patrick McLoughlin means that Virgin will still be running the line five years after it was supposed to have handed it over to rival operator FirstGroup, after losing the bidding process in 2012.

Meanwhile, the equally troubled East Coast main line will be put back into private ownership, with the government planning to re-privatise the nationalised route within two years. A new company ought to be running that one by February of 2015

Well hello there. An image of the Motorola X Phone has leaked out ahead of its Google I/O launch, as well as smorgasbord of specs. Read on to find out what’s under the hood of Google’s next superphone.

The rumour mill just keeps on churning: GSM Arena’s been tipped with a render of the upcoming phone from a reliable source, plus a few extra hints of what’s inside. Motorola’s new phone will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor that’s even faster than the hardware powering the Samsung Galaxy S4.

It’s also set to come packing a Gorilla Glass 3-protected, 4.7-inch screen with a 1280×768 resolution, which strangely, puts it well behind many of its full HD rivals such as the Galaxy S4, HTC One and the Sony Xperia Z.

Motorola X Phone: Make your own custom Android superphone

Out of the box, the Motorola X Phone will run Android 4.2 Jelly, and much like the Xperia Z, the X Phone looks like it can survive a dunk in a glass of water, as it boasts water resistant powers. Those who like to keep things handy on a microSD card will have to look elsewhere though, as it looks like the X Phone won’t come packing a slot for extra storage.

She's long described herself as a daddy's girl, even getting a tattoo of the phrase, so is it any surprise Kelly Osbourne is using her dad Ozzy as style inspiration?

The lilac-haired star was snapped in Warsaw, Poland following her recovery from a scary seizure. Wearing an all-black outfit with a big crucifix and circular sunnies, the star left her long haired straight with a middle parting, reminiscent of her legendary rock star pop's 'do.

Kim Kardashian shows off her pregnancy curves while out in New York

Much has been made of the fact Kim Kardashian appears to be resisting the pull of conventional maternity wear in favour of her high fashion finds. That said, the star was snapped wearing a roomy smock and flat sandals over the weekend! Shortly after succumbing to comfortable clothes she was back in her fave skinny pencil skirt 'n' tight top combo. Not to worry, Kim reassured the world via her twitter account that her wardrobe was in fact very comfy!

“For any concern that my clothes are too tight, I have so many pieces custom fit for my growingbody! They make pregnancy Spanx which are tight. I feel my best when I am in heels and chic clothes! Happy mommy, happy baby! Xo."

For two television appearances in New York today, Kim opted for two different outfits, both with cute flare skirts and a cinched waist which sat just above her baby bump.

First up was a quick stop by the Good Morning America studios to say, erm, good morning wearing a silky mini skirt with a pretty lace-panelled blush top.

For Live with Kelly and Michael Kim opted for a cute coffee-coloured dress which showcased her very, ahem, ample assets and cleverly hid her little bubba bump. She kept her matchy Louboutins from before and left her long locks loose.

Earlier in the week Kim told E! that Kanye was loving her preggers bod, "I think it's really cute now that my belly has popped a little bit. I think it's really a sexy thing; it's cute.
'It's just such an exciting thing for the guys to see our body go through all these different changes. He [Kanye] loves it and embraces it and he's helped me feel sexy and embrace it."

Rihanna leaves 2000 school children waiting over three hours for 12 minute performance!

Blame it on the traffic? Uh oh looks like Rihanna may have done a Justin Bieber!

Diamonds’ star Rihanna left 2000 school children waiting over three hours and blamed traffic for her lateness.

Making her way to the school performance, the Cockiness singer tweeted, "This Chicago traffic is not working."

What makes the situation worse is she reportedly only stayed on stage for 12 minutes! That’s only about 3 songs worth. You’d be a little bit annoyed right?

RiRi was supposed to be doing a meet-and-greet with students from Barrington High School, Illinois, to thank them for raising £25,000 for the town of Joplin, Missouri, after a tornado hit them in May, 2012.

Impatient Fans

One pupil wrote on Twitter, "Looks like I’m not the only impatient person!! #everyoneisleaving."

An official said they came close to cancelling the event in fear of Rihanna not actually turning up.

Local official, Jeff Arnett, said, "After she was 90 minutes late then two hours behind schedule, there was a time we wondered if the event would actually happen.

"But because her staff members were also waiting with us, we felt she was ultimately going to get there."

When the Baijan beauty did show up she praised the kids and gave away tickets for her world tour as part of a raffle.

RiRi posted, "Barrington High School facts! They raised 40 thousand dollars for Joplin Missouri after the tragic tornado hit Missouri in May last year... BHS thank you man!!!

"You guys rule!!! I love this school!!!"

Ooops! David Beckham falls over on the football pitch in his suit!

On Friday we were obsessed with the first pictures of David Beckham playing football in his nice suit, (that bum!) but Becks has proved that smart shoes are not the best on the pitch as he suffered an embarrassing tumble while showing off his technique.

David is on an ambassadorial visit to China, and has taken every excuse to have a kickabout while he is there. We can’t stop drooling at the sight of him on the pitch in his suit, but it wasn’t the most practical of attire as Becks’ shoes slipped on the grass and flew out from under him. David landed flat on his (perfect) bum but seemed to take the embarrassing slip in good spirits. We dread to think of the grass stains – he will probably just buy a new suit though!

David has been in the country to promote football in China and has said ‘I’ve always been a fan of Chinese football because I think the players are very talented and very passionate. When you see the excitement throughout this country when the team has done well you see how important it is to people. I am excited to make a difference.’

We’re loving David’s work, though we think he should stick to a pair of his customised Adidas boots and football kit rather than an expensive suit next time he fancies a go on the pitch! 

Is that your new sofa? Victoria Beckham shows off her dress while sitting on a massive roll of pink bubblewrap

We’re sure we were meant to be focussing on the dress, but we couldn’t take our eyes off the giant roll of bubblewrap Victoria Beckham chose to sit on in a recent Twitpic. We actually want to steal it as a new sofa for heat Towers…

Victoria posted the picture of herself on her Twitter page with the caption: ‘Loving the Pink bubble wrap! New shoot wearing my new Victoria Beckham ICON collection x vb’. Luckily Victoria’s stunning dress from her ICON collection and her Rupert Sanderson heels managed to drag our gaze away from the bubblewrap (imagine how long you could spend popping that?!).

We love the dress and shoes but are slightly concerned Victoria’s going to catch a chill or break her ankle as she later tweeted that she was wearing the same to-die-for heels in the snow in London.  We bet she’s not missing the weather in LA at all right now…

Victoria also posted an image of her hugging one of her team members in celebration of her new website victoriabeckham.com launching this week. We’re just as excited to see the new website and lust after the dresses and bags in Victoria’s collection. If we skip lunch for the next month we could totally afford to buy one of her dresses, right? Maybe not, but we can dream! 

Twilight star Ashley Greene narrowly escapes house fire but sadly loses her dog in the blaze

Sad news this morning as we hear of reports of a house fire that burnt down the apartment ofTwilight star, Ashley Greene.

According to reports, the blaze started after a candle was left unattended in the early hours.

Mourning

The actress was reportedly asleep in the flat, along with her brother Joe and another man when the fire broke out at the apartment in West Hollywood.

All three managed to be evacuated and were soon safe outside – however, it’s being claimed that one of the stars beloved dogs did not make it.

According to recent reports, after they escaped the blaze, the trio realised that both Marlo and Theo were still inside and so, the two men raced back into the building to try and rescue them.

Managing to get both dogs out of the apartment, it was then claimed that Ashley was seen cradling one of the pooches and appeared to be in great distress.

It is unknown yet whether it was Marlo or Theo that sadly died.

The 26-year-old’s flat in the Granville Apartments has been completely destroyed and according to witnesses at the time, the blaze was attended to by 55 firemen with ten fire engines being deployed to the area.

The star has spoken many times about how much she loves her dogs, explaining how that when she got her first, Marlo – she would accompany the actress everywhere as Ashley could not bear the thought of leaving her by herself.
